Required: 2 books (Walk On by Alan
Williams and Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser)
The first semester of the school year, we
will be studying—and writing in—various nonfiction genres. Therefore, you will
be reading nonfiction works for summer reading. Fast Food Nation is an
investigative journalist’s analysis of the fast food industry. For this book,
you are also to complete the following assignment:

Compile a list of twenty significant things
you learned from this text. Make sure they come from throughout the book. List
page numbers.

Choose a paragraph or two that you find to be
particularly well-written. Copy the passage and then, in a paragraph, analyze
the style of writing. Why is it well-written? What contributes to its
effectiveness?
You will also be writing an essay on Fast
Food Nation the first week of school, so I would recommend that you read
this book second.
