QUALIFICATIONS: 10th,
11th, & 12th grades. Complete
application and mail it to Leflore County Extension
Service. Students will participate in a final selection
round interview. Qualifications are set by the Extension
Service.
This is a leadership
development program for youth. The selected participants
complete steps to receive the Bronze Medal level of the
Congressional Award program. Each participant will
complete 100 hours of community service. This is an
11-month program that involves working with other
participants locally and statewide.
Purpose of the Program
The mission of the 4-H
Potential Realized In Diverse Environments (P.R.I.D.E.)
program is to allow youth to learn about self-concepts,
interpersonal relationships, diversity, goal setting and
teamwork. These are life skills needed for
youth and leadership development in all young people
to become productive, responsible adults.
Description
The scope of the 4-H
P.R.I.D.E. program encompasses eight lesson plans and
project involvement in local community programming
efforts. All curriculum is experiential based for
“hands-on” involvement by youth.
Objectives
The objectives of the 4-H
P.R.I.D.E. program are:

Uses of various teaching
methods to achieve these objectives are incorporated to
stimulate a changed behavior in the participants. These
teaching methods include experiential learning
techniques, specifically individual and group activities
reinforcing the key concepts for appreciation of
diversity, effective communication and conflict
resolution, positive goal setting, positive self esteem,
resource development, and team work.
Impact
Impact of this program can
be measured qualitatively and quantitatively through
questionnaires, buzz sessions, and group discussions
conducted by the Leflore County Extension Service
facilitators. An overall impact evaluation will be
compiled using data from pre-test, post-test, recorded
interviews, and monthly written survey evaluations.
Youth in this program will participate in planning,
implementing, and evaluating community programs through
various local community agencies. They will also use
leadership skills to identify, assess and resolve
community needs.
Logistics
The 4-H P.R.I.D.E.
program will be in session for 11 months beginning in
September and ending in July. The students will commit
to meeting one day a month from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The location of the meetings will vary according to each
meeting requirements. The 4-H P.R.I.D.E. program will be
headquartered at the Leflore County Extension Office.
