8th Grade and 8th Honors
Summer Reading 2008

Walk-On
by Alan Williams

For this summer’s reading, you will read Conrad Richter’s The Light in the Forest. Study questions to help as you are reading the book can be found on the Pillow Academy website. These questions should be answered on loose-leaf paper. These questions will be used as the basis of discussion the first few days of school. A test on the book will be given the first week of school.

In addition to The Light in the Forest, you will read Alan Williams’s Walk On. You will not be tested on Walk On. Your assignment for this book follows.

My advice is to read Walk On first so that The Light in the Forest will be fresh in your mind when you return to school.

The following quotes are found throughout the novel. Please respond to each quote by explaining:

1) How the quote relates to that particular chapter
2) How the quote relates to Alan Williams’s life, and
3) How the quote relates to your life. Your responses should be ½ to ¾ of a page each.

*Helpful Hint: Though the quote may be found in the middle of a chapter, you should read the entire chapter before responding to the quote.
