Pillow Academy senior, Kyle Buford, will be speaking to the U.S.
Congress later this month. Dr. Linda
Mitchell,
Vice Chair- United States Congressional
Award Program,
will be taking Kyle and one other representative from Mississippi to
Washington, D.C. on January 27-29. Kyle will be speaking to a host of
government officials (senators, congressmen, etc.) about the importance
of the CongressionalAward
Program.
The Congressional Award, founded in 1979,
is an award for young Americans, established by the United States
Congress. It is the highest award given by any United States legislative
body. It is a non-partisan, voluntary, and non-competitive program open
to all 14- to 24-year-olds. It recognizes the setting and meeting of
goals in four areas: volunteer public service, personal development,
physical fitness, and expedition/exploration. Based on time commitments
to each of the areas, participants earn Bronze, Silver and Gold
Congressional Award medals. Kyle has earned
the Bronze medal and will be presented with the U.S. Congressional Award
Silver medal in February for completing all four of these goals.

The re-paving work done to our carpool lanes at Pillow Academy
was a generous gift from Rocky Steen, owner and general manager of J.J. Ferguson
Sand and Gravel, Inc. This gift keeps us moving forward on reaching our long
range planning goal. It is great to be a part of setting goals and making
plans, but even more exciting to have those plans being implemented. With our
first pavement project completed, this spring we will begin renovating the
exterior of the Student Activity Building. A gift from the Sethi Family was
designated for this project. Pillow Academy is on the move!
The remainder of our Phase I goals are to enlarge our gymnasium and
expand and update technology throughout the school. The first phase of
our technology plan is to purchase new computers for the Elementary
Computer Lab.
These goals will be met through funds from PA+, our Pillow Academy
Endowment Fund, and other contributions. We hope you will be a part of
accomplishing Pillow Academy's Phase I goals. Again, a special thanks
to the Steens and J.J. Ferguson Sand and Gravel, Inc., the Sethi
Family, the Endowment Board, and each and every one of our donors.
