This is the last week the seniors will be in the class. I'll give the seniors a survey/questionnaire about the class to help me change and improve the class for next year. All seniors must complete the Engineering review and improvement sheet before the end of the week. Juniors do not have to complete this sheet, as we will have more specific discussions next week.


Also, you will be provided with checklists of large parts that need to be placed into the blue bins. Seniors should show me their completed box and checklist before the end of the week.

Begin the first build. The project deadline will be Wednesday, September 2. Class time will be devoted to building and testing the project. Be sure to keep up with your notebooks and be prepared to answer questions about your progress and what is still left to do at the various checkpoints throughout the build.

Each group will get and label their box of equipment. Look at everything that comes in the box and how it is organized. Read about the first build, and begin to gather materials needed from the box and form a plan on how the team will tackle the project.

Test on the background information about robots and engineering.

Review the basics of engineering, coding and technical parts that we have discussed during the first week of class. There will be a test on Wednesday on this background information.

Introduce the names and functions of the parts that will be used in the first build. Then, learn how to set up an engineering notebook and how notes should be taken during each day of the build. These notebooks will be checked during checkpoints during every build.

Present and critique each others robots designs

Each group will be given a simple task, and your job is to think of how you would design a robot to complete that task. You will have to think of what types of parts you might need, and what type of inputs to use. You will present your task and robot idea to the class on Friday. Make a quick sketch of your robot and label the parts that you used, take a picture of the sketch, and send me the picture. I will put the picture up on the board as you present your robot.

HW: Make sure someone from your group has sent me the picture by the start of class tomorrow. If you don’t the whole group loses points.
