"Shoe verbs" (also called boot verbs) are grammar terms for stem-changing verbs in languages like Spanish and French. When you draw a line around the forms that change on a conjugation chart, they make the shape of a shoe.
Stem-Changing Patterns:
- e to ie (cerrar - to close): cierro, cierras, cierra, cerramos, cerráis, cierran
- o to ue (poder - to be able): puedo, puedes, puede, podemos, podéis, pueden
- e to i (pedir - to ask for): pido, pides, pide, pedimos, pedís, piden.
