Mexican Independence Day festivities last two days, on both the 15 and 16 of September in Mexico you will find one of the country's loudest and proudest celebrations of its history and culture.

Mexico's Independence Day in 2025 is on Tuesday, September 16. This holiday commemorates the "Cry of Dolores" in 1810, the call to arms by priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla that started the Mexican War of Independence from Spain. The Date: The official date is September 16. The Event: It is known in Spanish as "El Grito de Dolores," or the Cry of Dolores. The Significance: The day marks the beginning of Mexico's struggle for independence from Spanish colonial rule. How it's Celebrated: Families and communities often gather to give their own "grito" (yell for independence), and there are many festivities and patriotic events.
