Let's Start Learning Science!
The Nature of Science

Objectives
1. Enhance each student's understanding of the purpose of Science. 
2. Introduce methods related to the process of Science inquiry. 

Classwork
1. Introduce " The Scientist's Toolkit"important vocabulary used to expand understanding of how to use science 
                                 The Scientist’s Toolkit
Observation: To use your eyes, ears, and hands to learn.
Evidence: The clues that prove if your guess was right.
Hypothesis: A "smart guess" about what will happen.
Experiment: A test to find out the answer to a question
2. Introduce the Three Pillars of Science: To Wonder, To Discover, and To Solve.
3 . Discuss information from the Science textbook from pages T29-T36.  Students will be provided with notes highlighting important information.
Homework
Study The Scientist's Toolkit, the  Three Pillars of Science and notes for a quiz on Friday, January 9, 2026. Students will be allowed to use notes to complete the quiz.

The Purpose of Science 

Objectives
1. Students will define science as a process of asking questions and using evidence to understand the world.
2. Students will apply their Scientist Toolbox and The Three Pillars of Science in an experiment.
3. Students will begin memorizing important information and vocabulary words for Friday's quiz.

Classwork
Teacher will guide students through the following experiments. Students will make hypotheses about the experiments.
The Mystery Box: Use a sealed box with a bell or marble inside. Have students "observe" by shaking it before guessing.
Penny Power: Have students use droppers to see how many water drops fit on a penny. 
Homework
Study notes for Friday's quiz. Students will be allowed to use notes to complete quiz.(wt. 1).

Science Safety and The Scientific Method


Objectives
-Students will be able to verbalize an understanding of following safety guidelines in Science

Classwork
1. Review and discuss page S16 from textbook regarding Science safety.
2. Watch The Scientific Method Song
3. Review all information presented in class to enhance understanding of the purpose of science. 

Homework
Study all notes for Friday's quiz. Students will be allowed to use notes to complete quiz.
