The teacher will call out letter sounds and words.

The teacher will write the words, gentle, magic and gym on the board.
The students will code the words. The soft g is coded with a dot above the g.
The g sounds like j when it is followed by the letters e,i and y.
J and G spelling rules: j is before a, o and u. Examples: jam, joke, jug
G is before e, I and y. Examples: German, giant, stingy
The students will code more soft g words.
The class will check orally
The students will look at the picture on their page and write sentences using the words provided to describe the picture.

The teacher will ask students, what do they hear in the initial position of each word. They hear the /f/ sound, but it is spelled with a ph. The ph digraph will be introduced.
The students will code the words above. Ph is coded with a simple underline.
The students will proceed to code words with the ph digraph.
The class will check the coding on the Smart Board.
The students will read the paragraphs on the worksheet and answer the comprehension questions.

The teacher will call out letter sounds and words.
The students will write them and check them on the Smart Board together.
The teacher will write the words volley, alley and chimney on the board introducing the digraph ey as in key.
The students will code the words above. Since the digraph makes the long e sound, the digraph will be underlined with a macron over the e and cross out the y.
The students will code additional words with the digraph ey. The class will check coding together.
The students will read the two paragraph story on the back of the page and complete the comprehension questions.
Homework: Review today’s lesson, new digraph ey, spelling homework due Friday

New vowel pattern. Separate between two consonants. Remember, when you see a word look for suffixes or final stable syllable. Look for obvious coding and vowel patterns. These words will have two vowels. Mark them with a v. Separate into syllables. Mark the consonants with a c.
Put the accent mark where it belongs, usually on the first syllable.
Ex: inspect, pumpkin, athlete,

Introduce new spelling words: not, on, pot, pop, top, no, mop, dot
Point out that the words are only made from sounds from our Focus wall
Introduce dictation sentences:
1.  I did not mop.
2.  The top in on the pot.
Model and Practice writing words and sentences  together on their homework page.  Start together and finish for homework

 Introduce Lesson 6 vowel i   (short i is coded with a breve- picture clue inch.  Long i is coded with a macron- picture clue -ice

2.   
Discuss the two sounds for /i/ and the codes.

3.   
Add the picture clues inch and ice to the Focus wall

4.   
Complete worksheet 6( work and check
together on smart board)
Read, spell, and code words with sounds from the Focus wall
