This first-week curriculum establishes classroom routines, assesses baseline writing skills, and reviews core grammar foundations to prepare students for the school year. Through a blend of creative icebreakers, textbook exploration, paragraph writing, and hands-on editing practice, students will learn how to navigate their materials and apply essential language mechanics.
Monday: Set up English notebooks/journals, complete the All About Me Pendant, and walk through textbook study and review features.
Tuesday: Finish pendants and write a paragraph about summer.
Wednesday: Review the 8 parts of speech.
Thursday: Introduce proofreader's marks with board practice and complete workbook pages 1–4.
Friday: Complete workbook pages 5–8, review answers as a class using proofreader's marks, and wrap up the week.
