3rd Grade Social Studies FALL 2026 Assignments

1. Recite poem with students. Due on or before Wednesday, August 26th.  
2. Students will work in groups to complete map skills classwork. This will be graded.
3. Students will complete a continents crossword puzzle if time allows.

Homework
Study for poem and test.

Poem must be recited by Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
Continents and Oceans test will be Thursday, August 27, 2026.

1. Recite poem with students. Due on or before Wednesday, August 26th.  
2. Practice spelling correctly and writing in cursive.  
3. Discuss Map Skills- Cardinal and Intermediate Directions and Using a Scale.
4. Play linked review games if time allows.

Homework

Classwork grade on Map Skills tomorrow. This will be completed in groups. 
Poem must be recited by Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
Continents and Oceans test will be Thursday, August 27, 2026.

1. Continue reviewing how to locate and spell continents and oceans.
2. Go over Map Skills pages-Elements of a Map and Types of Maps.
3. Answer questions as a class.

4. Locate equator on the map. Practice writing and spelling equator in cursive.

2. Label continents and oceans on study guide (blank map study guide copy)  and color the map and save in Social Studies folder in binder to study for map test on Thursday, August 27th. 
3. Practice spelling correctly and writing in cursive.  
4. Watch you tube video of facts about continents as students color their maps.

1. Students will be introduced to the foundational structure of Social Studies by exploring the 8 Strands on pages H1–H2 of their textbook. 2. The teacher will outline daily classroom procedures, grading expectations for memory work, cursive handwriting, spelling accuracy, and upcoming project structures. 
3. Students will receive their first memory assignment—The 7 Continents Poem. This may be recited on or before Wednesday, August 26th. 
4. Review the specific assessment criteria for the upcoming Continents and Oceans Test scheduled for Thursday, August 27th.  
5. Watch videos and review continents to enhance each student's ability to memorize continents and oceans.
